What is counselling, and how can it help me?
Counselling is a professional service where trained counsellors help you explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. It can provide support, develop coping strategies, and promote mental well-being during challenging times.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of counselling. Your privacy is respected. At no time, except in emergencies, will any information regarding you or your counselling be released to any third-party without your written consent.
Do I need to have a diagnosed mental health condition to seek counselling?
No, you do not need a diagnosed condition. Many people seek counselling for stress, anxiety, relationship issues, or personal growth. It’s beneficial for anyone looking to improve their emotional health.
How long does counselling usually last?
Each counselling session is 50 mins to 1 hour long. Depending on individual needs, some people benefit from a few sessions like 3 sessions, while others may need longer-term support. Your counsellor will work with you to develop a suitable plan.
How often should I attend counselling sessions?
The frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. Some clients attend weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Your counsellor will work with you to determine a schedule that is most effective for your progress.
How do I prepare for my counselling sessions?
To get the most out of your sessions, consider reflecting on what you’d like to discuss, setting personal goals, and being honest and open with your counsellor. It can also help to write down questions or topics beforehand to ensure you cover everything important to you.
Would my record of attending counselling affect my academic record or result?
No, your presence and any information shared in counselling is confidential and not shared to any academic or program staff. At no time, except in emergencies, will any information regarding you or your counselling be released to any third-party without your written consent.
