Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme
The "Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme" (TPg) is introduced by the HKSAR Government with the aim to attract meritorious local students to pursue further studies in priority areas conducive to the strategic development of Hong Kong. Administered under the University Grant Committee (UGC), fellowship places have been allocated for Master of Economics, Master of Finance and Master of Science in Business Analytics at HKU in the 2024/25 academic year.
Eligibility
Local students who are admitted to the Master of Economics, Master of Finance, Master of Science in Business Analytics will be eligible. To avoid double subsidy, students awarded with other government scholarships, including the Continuing Education Fund, will not be considered to avoid “double benefit”. Nevertheless, students are still eligible to apply for the Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme under Student Finance Office to settle the tuition fees for the TPg programme in the form of loans.
Award
The fellowship students are required to pay a minimum tuition fee of HK$42,100, which is the prevailing rate of the UGC-funded programmes, and the differences will be subsidised by the fellowships subject to a cap of HK$120,000 for each student regardless of the actual study period of the programme.
For Master of Economics, the tuition fee for 2023/24 academic year is HK$360,000, then the level of the fellowships will be capped at HK$120,000.
For Master of Finance, the tuition fee for 2023/24 academic year is HK$462,000, then the level of the fellowships will be capped at HK$120,000.
For Master of Science in Business Analytics, the tuition fee for 2023/24 academic year is HK$390,000, then the level of the fellowships will be capped at HK$120,000.
Criteria for Assessment
The award of the fellowships will be assessed in a rigorous and holistic approach and will be based on merits taking into account the students’ academic achievements, professional qualifications, relevant working experience, achievements in other areas, and a proposal submitted by students on how they can contribute to the priority area in Business (i.e. Enhancing Hong Kong’s Strategic position as a regional and international business centre) of Hong Kong after completing the programme.
Application
Eligible applicants who are admitted to the Master of Economics, Master of Finance and Master of Science in Business Analytics will be invited by the Programme Office to submit applications for the Fellowships Scheme in due course.
